Welcome to the Garfield Institute of Music OST Program. To ensure every family clearly understands how GIM works, we require all parents to watch the following videos before taking the next step.

STEP 2: This video explains how GIM operates from traditional after-school and school-based programs, including expectations, structure, and standards.
STEP 3: This video outlines what is included with participation, such as instruction, uniforms, programming, performances, and student support.
STEP 4: This video explains the required paperwork, timelines, deadlines, and what happens if steps are missed or delayed.

GIM is not a free drop-in program.
This is a structured youth program with real instruction, uniforms, and performance opportunities.

This is not a drop-in program.
We are building a serious, elite youth environment.
Possibly — but it depends on readiness.
GIM is a structured program, and we do accept students who need growth and direction.

Discovery Day helps determine whether the program is the right fit.
Students may not participate in GIM while actively performing or holding membership in another marching band, dance team, color guard, or affiliated competing program.
We do not allow split commitments or divided program loyalty.
However, students who take music classes during the school day — without participating in their school’s ensemble or marching program — may still be eligible to join GIM.
GIM requires consistency, availability, and full commitment to our training and performance standards.
Marching band is optional — but performance is not.
Students may participate in OST music training without marching band, but all music students are expected to participate in quarterly recitals, showcases, or ensemble performances.
GIM is built around growth, commitment, and public performance.
